There is something unforgettable about a Navy homecoming in San Diego.
Months of waiting finally come to an end as families gather along the pier at Naval Base San Diego, watching the horizon and eagerly waiting for their sailor's ship to return. Handmade signs are held tightly by little hands, children ask every few minutes if they can see the ship yet, and spouses count down the final moments until deployment is officially over.
Recently, I had the privilege of photographing a beautiful Navy ship homecoming at Naval Base San Diego, and it was a reminder of why these reunions deserve to be documented. Every family has a different story, but they all share the same overwhelming feeling when their loved one finally steps off the ship.
Counting Down the Days Until Daddy Came Home
This sweet family arrived early, ready to welcome home their sailor after 253 days apart.
Their children proudly held a handmade sign that read:
"We've Waited 253 Days for This Moment. Welcome Home Daddy!"
As we waited along the waterfront, they smiled for a few portraits, explored the pier, and watched the harbor together. Their excitement grew with every announcement and every glimpse of activity aboard the ship.
